Unit 1:- Ability to understand the technical aspects
Unit 2:- Introduction to the concept of Raga and its classification and the factors to determine the ragas
Unit 3:- Ability to understand the concept of Tala and its application.
Unit 4:- Knowledge on the contribution and biographical details of the prescribed composers
Unit 5:- Understanding the style of the composer with reference to poetical expression and musical excellence.
Course outcome
The course give an overview of musical compositions through which the student can understand and appreciate distinctive quality of the composition with regard to Raga and Tala
The student can adapt the knowledge of devotional music by studying about different varieties of raga varieties.
The student is expected to learn different varieties of talas and its usage
This course help to understand the vernacular language and its richness.

Paper 1 theory
Unit :-1
Sruti, 7 Svara sthanas , Shodasa svaras ,Dhatu and Matu, Gamakas, Sapta talas, Pancha jatis , Gati bheda ,Talangas
Unit 2:-Raga classification ,Janaka and ajanya ragas, Raga lakshanas
Unit 3:- Adit tala ,Rupaka and Chapu tala varieties
Unit 4:- Manodharma sangita and Bhakti sangita
Unit 5- Biographies of Annamayya ,Ramada sa and Tyagaraja and
A Comparative study of their compositions.
Paper 2 Practical
Unit 1:-Yamuna kalyani, Yadukula kambhoji, Anada Bhairavi, Natakuranji,
Saveri and Sankarabharanam
Unit 2:-Abheri, Kambhoji, Bilahari, Kapi, Dhanyasi, Surati
Compulsory to learn any three compositions from each unit
Paper 3 Practical
Unit 1:- Sourastra, Khamas, Sama , Kanad, Mukhari, and Mohana
Unit 2:-Kamavardhani, Kedara goula, Hamsanandi ,Bhairavi, Nadanama kriya , Varali Madhyamavati
